Normal vs Abnormal
As a chiropractor, I often encounter patients with concerns about their cervical curvature. The cervical spine, consisting of seven vertebrae, naturally possesses a gentle curve that helps maintain balance, stability, and range of motion in the neck.
This normal cervical curvature, known as lordosis, allows the spine to distribute forces evenly while minimizing stress on the cervical discs, nerves, and joints. However, certain factors such as poor posture, traumatic injuries, or degenerative conditions can lead to an abnormal cervical curvature.
When the natural curve becomes exaggerated or reversed, it can result in discomfort, restricted movement, and increased pressure on the surrounding structures. As chiropractors, we focus on restoring the proper alignment of the cervical spine through specific adjustments, traction therapy, rehabilitation exercises, and lifestyle modifications, aiming to help with pain, improve function, and promote long-term spinal health.
