Is Chiropractic Biophysics right for you?
Chiropractic Biophysics is one of the approaches I use for patients who may benefit from structural and postural rehabilitation. However, not every patient requires structural correction. A comprehensive assessment helps determine the most appropriate approach base on your presentation, goals and clinical findings.
The founder of Chiropractic Biophysics Dr. Don Harrison had an in-depth discovery and further developed this evidence based and most researched chiropractic technique focused on improving health and function, reducing chronic pain and symptoms by restoring abnormal posture and curvature in the spine on top of Chiropractic Adjustment.
Do you remember our parents always telling us to sit straight at a family dinner?
Do you remember when you saw some elders who have a hunched back posture, you will quickly feel this is not normal ?
Just like we have normal/abnormal values and guidelines for our heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, there is normal and abnormal spinal curvature, deformity and posture in your neck, mid back and lower back.
If it is abnormal, there is a highly likely that you are susceptible to chronic recurring neck and back pain, headache, or even lately researches found it can correlate to decrease volume of air into the lungs when breathing, limited shoulder mobility, sub-optimal nervous system functioning, decrease baseline range of motion, poor balance, higher chance of falling and even mortality rate in subjects with Hyperkyphosis.
The most validated method to evaluate spinal mechanics and posture is including full spine radiographs in a weight-bearing position on the side and also front to back position.
Our head weighs around 10-14 lbs like a bowling ball and loads on top of our neck. When we have a normal lordosis (curve in the neck that bends back on the left picture), the muscles, ligaments and joints are the least stressed and balanced. If our head is shifted forward by 1 inch and with a kyphosis (curve in the neck that bends forward on the right picture), the pressure on the spine is doubled, and 6–8 times more specifically at the lower neck and prone to pain and function.
Can this be corrected ?
Yes, but not with traditional chiropractic adjustment, massage, non-posture specific physiotherapy exercises or other conservative treatments.
The vertebras (bones in the spine) are held by strong ligaments just like the gums between your teeth. If you want to make your teeth straighter, you should go see the orthodontist and get some teeth braces instead of seeking a dentist to get your teeth cleaned. The concept of bracing is to apply pressure in specific areas to guide the teeth into a certain direction, and hold it over time to allow a permanent change in its position.
In a clinical setting, there are 3 specific therapies we will prescribe to create lasting change.
Specific Posture Chiropractic Adjustments (Mirror image adjustment)
In Clinic Multi-Directional tractions and Home Spinal Remodel Orthotics
In Clinic and Home Postural rehabilitation exercises
To monitor your progress, we also conduct a multiple evidence-based objective measurements including PostureScreen which is an AI guided analysis of your posture and functional movement from different angles. We will perform one at the beginning of the program and review periodically over time
How can I start ?
